Brisbane's impact winger Wendell Sailor silenced the notorious army of Bulldogs fans last night by grabbing two tries in the Broncos ruthless 34-6 demolition of Canterbury at the Sydney Showground.

Sailor had been waging a running war with the raucous group who fill a large bay at the northern end of the Homebush stadium, but had the last word when he touched down with only minutes to play. He put his fingers to his lips and shooshed the army, who responded by tossing plastic battles and other rubbish.

It was laughed off as good natured by National Rugby League chief executive David Moffett. who had sat with the Army in the first half.

Sailor's actions seemed a little risky in light of recent troubles involving the group which had been accused of serious anti-social behaviour following a recent home game.

In reality, Sailor's silencing of the Bulldogs fans was just a repeat of what had Just occurred on the field for the previous 75 minutes.

The powerful Broncos showed they again deserve to be short-priced favourites to win a second consecutive premiership by strangling Canterbury of possession and defending stoutly throughout.

Even without Ben Ikin, Phillip Lee and Gorden Tallis — not to mention the six retirees from last year — the young Broncos showed they are very hard to beat wisest they play their best football.

Their players of note were spread all across the park but the bravest performance came from 21 year-old five eighth Scott Prince, who buried his father, Les, on Tuesday following a car accident the previous week.

He dedicated the win to him and his mourning family.

-My dad would say just gel straight back in there and have a good year." he said post-game.

My family, are all in Townsville at my place ... sitting around having a few drinks and watching the game. It was good that we had a win for them and for my father."

Bennett said Prince was "very special".

"With what he's been through. it was a great credit to him and a great help to our team. I am sure his father would have been extremely proud of him." he said.

Despite giving his team a warning not to celebrate a single victory with too much enthusiasm. Bennett praised the performance of "a great character", Wendell Sailor.

"He got a little bit of ball and a little bit of space to move and that helped hint a lot. A lot of the time modern day wingers don't get the opportunities they got in the past. and it was nice to see him get some space to play in." Bennett said.

Sailor himself enjoyed the running war with the Bulldogs army, but gave all credit to right centre Chris Walker, who set him up with plenty of ball.

It is probably the best I have played this year. 'Benny' probably doesn't agree with the way I celebrate but it is great fun. I love the Bulldogs crowd," Sailor said. –

I played with Darren Smith and Tonie Carroll — they were blockbusting centres -- but Chris Walker reminds me of Steve Renouf. If he keeps his head he can do anything  this game.
