A crafty half back who knows how to sniff out a try. His pin-point kicking game has produced many four-pointers during his first grade career at the club.

Sherwin joined Canterbury in 1997 as a goal kicking five eighth and was a regular member of the Under 19 team. He played in the Preliminary Final against Penrith.

In 1998, Brent started the season in reserve grade and became a regular member of the team playing on the wing. He broke Gary Sullivan's 1980 record for most points in a reserve grade season, scoring 170 points. Brent played in the reserve grade Premiership winning team against Parramatta.

In 1999, Brent was a regular member of the reserve grade team as a half back and received the opportunity to play in the NRL against Western Suburbs when Ricky Stuart was injured. He returned to reserve grade to play in the Qualifying Semi-Final against Balmain before returning to the NRL to play in the Semi-Final against Melbourne from the bench.

In 2000, Brent started the season in the NRL and became a regular member of the team as a five eighth.

In 2001, Brent was a regular member of the team, mainly playing from the bench and played in the Qualifying Semi-Final against St George from the bench. Injury prevented Brent playing in the Semi-Final.

In 2002, Brent played every NRL game that season as half back and represented City Origin. He represented City Origin in 2002, 2003 and 2005.

In 2003, Brent was a regular member of the NRL team and played in the Preliminary Final against the Roosters.

In 2004, Brent was a regular member of the NRL team and played in the Premiership winning team against the Roosters.

In 2005, Brent was a regular member of the team but his season was cut short by a broken hand.

In 2006, Brent started the season in the NRL but was relegated for Reni Maitua. He returned to the NRL when Ben Roberts was relegated and became a regular member of the team and played in the Preliminary Final against Brisbane.

In 2004, Brent was nominated for the Berries to Bulldogs 70 Year Team of Champions.

In 2008, Brent joined the Castleford Tigers in the English Super League.

In 2014, Brent was awarded Life Membership of the Football Club.
