The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have suffered their eighth loss of 2011, going down to the Penrith Panthers by 20 points to six at Centrebet Stadium.
The Bulldogs trailed 20-nil with an hour of play gone, two tries to man of the match Travis Burns and one to Adrian Purtell proving telling blows against a visiting side that was largely out-enthused in attack and defence.
Burns also excelled with the boot, three conversions and a penalty goal seeing him finish with a 100% record and 16 points for the night.
The Bulldogs however found no such spearhead in a performance that will see them slip out of the top eight for the second time this season.
Adding to their pain, Ben Roberts was placed on report during the first half after referee Jason Robinson judged the five eighth had struck out at Burns while in possession of the ball.
While Burns was on fire in terms of points scored, his halves partner Luke Walsh was outstanding when kicking in attack, with all three of the Panthers tries coming from kicks.
After a relatively even opening quarter, Walsh laid on the Panthers first try with a sneaky chip behind the line that bounced out of the grasp of Barba and back to the halfback, who fed Purtell for the try.
Burns had the easiest of conversions to make it 6-nil.
Burns was the main beneficiary of Walsh's boot seven minutes later when he went in for his side's second, flying high over Dogs skipper Andrew Ryan to touch down off a deft kick behind the goal posts.
Again, Burns made short work from in front to make it a dozen after 25 minutes for the home side.
The Dogs best chance of the half came after 37 minutes, when Roberts appeared to have snuck try out of dummy half. However Robinson sent the decision upstairs, with slow-mo replays appearing to show that Roberts lost control in the act of scoring.
A Burns penalty goal 14 minutes after the resumption was the next score, which was followed up by his second try with 60 minutes gone.
The ensuing conversion secured the Panthers the win at 20-nil.
The only time the Bulldogs bothered the scorers was in the 68th minute of play, when Jamal Idris stormed over after earlier being held up, with Steve Turner's conversion seeing a final score of 20-6.
The Bulldogs travel to Adelaide on Friday ahead of Saturday's round 18 fixture against the Melbourne Storm at the Adelaide Oval.
