Corey Payne made his NRL debut in the first game of the 2005 season, scoring a try for the Dragons against the Bulldogs.
After playing 47 games with St George Illawarra between 2005-07, Corey moved to the Wests Tigers where he played 41 games.
Late in 2009, it was announced that Corey had signed for the 2010 season with the Bulldogs, where he had played in lower grades back in 2002-04. However, an injury to his shoulder in the pre-season threatened to sideline him for the rest of the year. After making four appearances late in the NSW Cup season, Corey debuted for the Bulldogs in the last round of the regular NRL season against Manly.
In 2010, Corey was a member of the Bulldogs NSW Cup premiership winning team against Windsor.
Corey has previously been nominated for the Ken Stephen Medal for his contributions to rugby league off the field, and is well known for community and charity work.
He graduated from the University of Sydney with a
bachelor's degree in Commerce.
In the 2012 NRL season, Corey made 27 appearances for Canterbury as the club won the Minor Premiership and reached the 2012 NRL Grand Final. Corey played from the bench as Canterbury lost the decider 14-4 at ANZ Stadium which was his last game before retiring at the age of 28.
