The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have worked their way back into the winners circle with a hard fought 16-6 away victory over the Wests Tigers at Campbelltown Stadium.
The Bulldogs led 6-nil at half time and extended that lead to 16-nil approaching full time, when Tim Moltzen crossed for the Tigers only try of the match.
The win closes the book on two disappointing losses for the Bulldogs, taking the side back into the top eight and two clear of tonight's opponent on 18 competition points with ten matches left to play before the finals.
Welcoming back Michael Ennis, Trent Hodkinson and Jamal Idris into their side, the Bulldogs threatened without success over the opening 20 minutes over a Tigers side missing injured spearhead Benji Marshall.
The visitors cause was helped inside 10 minutes when Tigers second rower Simon Dwyer was helped from the field with nerve damage in his neck and shoulder after heavy contact with Michael Hodgson.
With the ball going from end to end the first clear scoring opportunity would not come the way of either side until the 21 minute mark, when Bulldog Frank Pritchard lost control of the ball just short of the Tigers line.
He made no mistake shortly after when he steamed onto an Aiden Tolman pass to score from close range, Steve Turner's conversion making it 6-nil to the Dogs.
It would prove to be the end of Pritchard's involvement, with the big Kiwi leaving the field with a rib injury shortly after.
The arm wrestle continued into the second half with neither side able to make an indent in the opposition defence, let alone the scoreboard.
Just when it seemed Jamal Idris man handling Tim Simona over the sideline and Josh Morris being held up over the line were going to be the highlights of a grinding second half, Ben Barba injected himself into the action for try number 12 of 2011.
Pressuring the Tigers line, Barba shrugged off an attempted block to chase down a Kris Keating grubber, touching down in front of Wade McKinnon to make it 10-nil.
12 minutes later and pressuring the Tigers line again, Keating put boot to ball and McKinnon made a mess of it, allowing Josh Morris to scoop it up to score the Dogs third.
Having put the shot following the Barba try into the upright, Turner made no mistake from wide out following the Morris try to make it 16-nil to the visitors.
Moltzen's strike off a messy play the ball close to the line four minutes from time was the only blemish on the Bulldogs defensive effort, with Jacob Miller adding the extras for a final score of 16-6.
