The Sydney Roosters have denied Brett Kimmorley a dream 300th victory with a come-from-behind win, knocking off the Bulldogs 36-32 at Sydney Football Stadium on Sunday.

Braith Anasta, playing in game 200 for the Roosters, played a major role in his side's win that keeps Sydney firmly entrenched in the top four and puts a serious dent in the Bulldogs finals hopes.

The Roosters trailed 32-24 with less than 15 minutes remaining before late tries to Todd Carney and Mitchell Aubusson gave them a sensational win in front of almost 20,000 fans.

The match was marred by a number of controversial refereeing decisions that seemed to go against the home side but they showed the sort of spirit needed by a team that has hopes of challenging for the premiership.

The Roosters got off to a dream start scoring in just the fourth minute as many of the spectators were still filling into the ground.

Mitchell Pearce's bomb was perfectly placed to come down right on the try line where his centre BJ Leilua outjumped Bulldogs winger Tim Winitana to score. Carney's conversion made it 6-0.

The Bulldogs hit back seven minutes later through a try to Michael Ennis, the feisty hooker darting out of dummy half close to the line to score in the corner.

Bryson Goodwin, who had kicked 21 conversions in succession before this match, pushed this one wide to keep the score at 6-4.

It wasn't long though before the home side increased their lead through a neat try to fullback Anthony Minichiello on 17 minutes.

Anasta's clever cut-out pass put Leilua into open space and as he came to Luke Patten found Minichiello looming in support to score under the sticks.

Ben Barba was having a quiet game for the Bulldogs but he produced a moment of class midway through the first half to get his side back in the contest, grubbering in behind the defence for Josh Morris to pounce and bring the score back to 12-10.

But the Roosters pulled away again three minutes later when Carney was on hand to finish off a brilliant team try.

There seemed to be no danger when Jared Waerea-Hargreaves was tackled near the halfway but the back-rower got an offload away to Jake Friend who in turn found Pearce who put a perfectly weighted kick into the in-goal.

Carney outpaced Barba to the ball to score and when he converted his own try the Tricolours looked to have all the momentum and an 18-10 lead.

Not to be denied, it was the Bulldogs who managed the next points although it was in controversial circumstances.

There was nothing wrong with the try itself as Ennis put Michael Hodgson over for his first try of the year but replays suggested a forward pass in the play before.

A Goodwin penalty goal brought the scores level at 18-18 before Mickey Paea charged onto another Ennis pass to cross a minute before the break to give the Bulldogs a 24-18 lead at half-time.

The point-scoring blitz continued inside the first three minutes of the second half as Patten crossed to increase their lead to 12 points.

A disallowed try to Anasta 10 minutes later infuriated the home supporters after video referee Sean Hampstead ruled the Roosters skipper had knocked on in the build up.

The Bondi club had to be next to score and Leilua obliged, crossing for his second out wide after good lead up work by Anasta and Kane Linnett. Carney's conversion from the sideline made it 30-24.

Goodwin potted a penalty goal soon after to increase the Bulldogs lead to eight points but Carney set up a dramatic finish when he scored his second 10 minutes from the end.

Aubusson completed the fightback five minutes from the end and despite some nervy moments the Roosters held on for a deserved win.
