Brett Kimmorley has capped off a golden week for the evergreen halfback by guiding the Bulldogs to a 23-16 win over the Gold Coast Titans at Suncorp Stadium on Friday.
The Dogs raced to a 16-nil halftime lead but had to withstand a Titans' comeback that saw them close within a converted try with five minutes remaining.
However playmaker Kimmorley, showing no ill-effects from Wednesday's successful State of Origin encounter, stepped up to slot a 79th minute field goal to secure the game for the Dogs.
For about 60 minutes we played great football and then we let them back into the game with a couple of silly errors, said man-of-the-match Luke Patten.
But we got away with the two points and that's the main thing.
The Dogs were in synch from the opening whistle. On the quick break fullback Patten put boot to ball and watched on as Josh Morris raced through to score.
Jamal Idris, a surprise inclusion after recovering from his elbow injury three weeks early, returned to the NRL in style with a rampaging try in the 10th minute.
The boom youngster pushed off Mat Rogers, sprinted to the line and rolled out of the desperate tackle of Preston Campbell to score.
Morris and Patten, who found himself in the thick of the attack throughout the game, combined again ten minutes before halftime to stretch the lead to 16 points.
The dynamic fullback burst through a hole in the line and offloaded for Morris to score his second try of the game - his 13th of the season.
A second-half double to Rogers and a scintillating solo score from wing Kevin Gordon had the Dogs looking over their shoulder but two of their elder statesman soon put the result beyond doubt.
Retiring wing Hazem el Masri scored beneath the posts after receiving a killer round-the-corner offload from Daniel Holdsworth in the 65th minute.
Then turning to his reliable boot, Kimmorley guided the blue-and-whites home as he did the Blues at the same venue two nights earlier.
The win keeps pressure on the Dragons at the top of the table in the race for the minor premiership, though the Bulldogs look ahead to five home games in the last seven rounds of the regular season.
In the only concern for the Dogs, Matt Utai found himself on report for a lifting tackle on Brett Delaney.
