A home crowd record of 22,147 has witness the Penrith Panthers continue their winning ways for 2003, recording an epic 28-26 victory at Penrith Stadium. In one of the best matches of the year to watch, the Panthers only just got away with the win after winger Luke Lewis leaped above opposing winger, Matt Utai to score the match levelling try in the 70th minute of the game.

Ryan Girdler's boot then put the home side in front, before the rest of the team put an excellent defence effort to prevent the Bulldogs from stealing the lead back.

All throughout the game, whilst the number of tries were frequent, the defence was still outstanding, with both sides having to show all their skill in order to catch the opposition out.

Penrith opened the scoring in the match, running out to a 12-0 lead, with Rhys Wesser and Shane Elford both collecting tries next to their name, before the Bulldogs starting a fight back. Lead by Braith Anasta, who sent Corey Hughes over in the 35th minute, before Dennis Scott and Jamie Feeney combined to send centre Nigel Vagana over right on half time to put scores at 12 all as both teams went into the shed.

The Bulldogs started the second half the better side, and when Rhys Wesser was controversially sent to the bin in the second half, the visitors raced to a 20-12 lead.

Tries to Luke Rooney and Lewis handed Penrith back the lead midway through the half before the visitors took the upper-hand via a converted try to Nigel Vagana after 66 minutes.

Lewis' second try however sealed the match, and left the majority of the large crowd very happy.
