The Bulldogs have continued their stellar start to the 2009 season with a 48-18 humiliation of Parramatta Eels at ANZ Stadium on Sunday.
Highlighted by a commanding performance from fullback Luke 'The General' Patten, the Dogs ran in nine tries against an Eels outfit that wilted in the second half.
"I think today showed the more time we spend with the football in hand, the more we grow in confidence. With that confidence comes our ability to put points on the board," said coach Kevin Moore.
The win in front of a crowd of 18,223 was the first for the Dogs against the Eels at ANZ Stadium since 2006.
Centre Josh Morris lasted only eight minutes before succumbing to a potentially season-ending foot injury but managed to score two tries during his short stint.
In the Bulldogs' first set of six, Michael Ennis sparked a short side play on the fifth tackle that sent Morris over after some neat hands from winger Bryson Goodwin.
The centre had his second only six minutes later after being put into a gaping hole by Ben Roberts. However he suffered a foot injury in the process of scoring and will undergo scans on Monday to determine the extent of the damage.
Jarryd Hayne and Weller Hauraki hit back for Parramatta before halftime but a rare Ben Hannant line break assured the Dogs an 18-12 lead.
The hulking prop found himself in space after shrugging off Eels' halfback Kris Keating. With a deft draw-and-pass he sent Luke Patten to the line.
The second half belonged to the blue-and-whites. They piled on six tries as Parramatta fell away in defence and, despite the efforts of Keating and Feleti Mateo, lost all direction in attack.
Patten finished with two tries to his name, a no-look flick pass to send Bryson Goodwin over and a handful of bone-jarring one-on-one tackles.
"It's probably the first game this season I've been genuinely happy with myself," he said. "It was a little bit more how I want to be - to get involved, get my hands on the footy."
Brett Kimmorley topped off another decisive display at halfback with an 80m sprint to score in the 75th minute.
"We're in good shape at the moment. It was pleasing to be able to kick on and score points when we needed to," he said.
"Everything's coming together nicely considering we're only six rounds into the season."
