The Bulldogs held off Cronulla to post a 30-22 win in their round 11 showdown at Sydney's Olympic stadium this evening.

It was only the Bulldogs' fourth victory of the season and the five tries to four result extinguished the Sharks' hopes of moving into the top four to be alongside the Sydney Roosters, Gold Coast and Manly on 16 points.

The Sharks were the first to make an entry on the scoresheet when Fraser Anderson touched down in the fifth minute of play but from that point, it was all one-way traffic in the first half with the Bulldogs racing to an 18-4 lead at the break.

Tim Winitana opened the Bulldogs account, before Daniel Holdsworth beat Greg Bird in the Sharks' defensive line to record his side's second four-pointer.

Sonny Bill Williams got in on the act when he scored from close range and with Hazem El Masri landing all three conversion attempts, the Bulldogs led comfortably by 14 points.

They extended their advantage to 24-4 in the 46th minute when El Masri managed the extras on Winitana's second score, before the Sharks fought back with consecutive converted tries through Danny Nutley and Brett Kimmorley to close the gap to eight points.

However, Bulldogs captain Andrew Ryan and El Masri teamed up in the 63rd minute to send the score out to 30-16 in the home side's favour, the Sharks' only response then being Ben Pomeroy's try that was converted by Brett Seymour 10 minutes out from full-time.
