The Bulldogs ran down a dogged Sharks to eke out a 14-12 win at a gloomy Toyota Park.
Down 12-0 at half-time, the Bulldogs scored three tries in the second half to claim their eighth win of the season and leapfrog the Sharks into seventh place on the ladder.
Andrew Ryan, Cameron Phelps and Daryl Millard scored tries for the Dogs all within a 12-minute period with Hazem El Masri kicking one goal.
Luke Covell bagged all of the Sharks' points through a try and four goals.
The loss, the Sharks' third on the trot and fifth in six games, sees the Sharks drop out of the top eight.
Minus regular halves Brett Kimmorley and Adam Dykes, Sharks coach Ricky Stuart reshuffling his forwards before kick-off, promoting former Queensland prop Ben Ross to the run-on side in order to muscle up against the big-name Dogs pack.
They did just that against a flat looking Dogs throughout a dour and conservative first half.
With the Sharks snuffing out the Bulldogs' zing and Sherwin's kicking game off, the home side dominated and provided one of the half's few attacking moments in the 10th minute.
State of Origin III man-of-the-match Greg Bird sent a beautiful cut-out ball to Covell who crossed untouched out wide.
The Sharks dogged determination was evident in their decision to knock over three penalty goals in the half, building a 12-0 lead by the break.
The Dogs looked unlucky to not get a better result maybe even a penalty try out of a Sherwin grubber in the 46th minute, when fullback Luke Patten appeared to be tackled without the ball in the Sharks' in-goal by Paul Gallen.
That came as the Bulldogs launched a wave of five straight sets at the solid Sharks only to come away with nothing but a disallowed try when centre Willie Tonga was held up in the 47th.
Through it all the Dogs were being caned in the penalties, a count which ended up 11-6 against them.
But they finally got on the board in the 57th minute when Tonga produced a majestic one-arm offload to Ryan who crossed, the conversion getting the Dogs back to 12-6.
They were in again five minutes later after a clever low bomb from Sherwin found and unmarked Phelps inside the Sharks in-goal, the winger grabbing it on the full and touching down for 12-10.
The Dogs took the lead for the first time in the match in the 67th when Millard picked up the scraps from a Sonny Bill Williams offload and was awarded a try by video referee Phil Cooley.
A rare off day with the boot from El Masri ensured the three-tries-to-one advantage meant only a 14-12 lead.
The Sharks cruelled their final couple of chances rare second half forays into Dogs territory with errors but centre Ben Pomeroy prevented the scoreline getting any bigger by holding up Dogs five-eighth Ben Roberts in the final minute.
Bulldogs interchange forward Kane Cleal suffered a suspected fractured jaw in today's match.
