The Sydney Roosters' up-and-down NRL season took another dip with the Bulldogs staging a stunning second-half comeback to run out 30-14 winners at Aussie Stadium.
Looking to consolidate after a good win over pacesetter North Queensland last weekend, the Roosters were overrun by a more committed Bulldogs outfit, slumping to their fifth loss of the season.
The defence from both sides was brutal in the opening stages of the game, non more so than Sonny Bill Williams' crunching hit on former Bulldogs teammate Braith Anasta which shook up the Roosters pivot.
The stalemate was finally broken in the 23rd minute when Nigel Plum brushed aside some weak defence to put the home side ahead.
But the Roosters' second try was all class, with Amos Roberts scoring his 10th of the season to double the lead.
Starting inside their own 20m zone, the Roosters spread the ball wide with Setaimata Sa putting winger Sam Perrett away down the touchline.
Perrett found Brett Finch in support before Roberts backed up to touch down under the posts.
The Roosters looked like taking a 12-0 lead to the break, but when Roosters skipper Craig Fitzgibbon rushed out of the line to present Tony Grimaldi with an opening, the Bulldogs veteran outran the cover defence of Roberts to halve the gap at the break.
A penalty goal extended the home side's advantage to eight points, but it was all the Bulldogs from thereon in as they raced in 24 unanswered points to rack up their fifth win from eight starts.
Five-eighth Daniel Holdsworth started the rout when he followed up some nice work by Reni Maitua to over under the posts, and the Bulldogs took their first lead at 18-14 when Test front rower Willie Mason crashed over from close range, though the final pass from dummy half Grimaldi appeared flat at best.
Williams completed the carnage when he raced over after the siren, much to the delight of the strong Bulldogs contingent of fans who had made the trek to Aussie Stadium.
