Adam Reynolds’s boot laid the foundation for a South Sydney side who have overcome the late season jitters to get their season well and truly back on track after a strong 28-20 win against Canterbury at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

After stuttering just weeks ago with three losses in four games, the Rabbitohs have bounced back beating two teams inside the top five in successive performances to keep their minor premiership dreams alive.

They beat the resilient Bulldogs who struggled to build pressure despite a strong performance from prop James Graham. The match was high quality and an entertaining affair.

Reynolds kicked one 40/20, his boot laid on a try and he also kicked six goals for a South Sydney side whose forwards rolled forward before allowing their halves and outside men to capitalise as both teams finished with four tries.

The Bulldogs looked most dangerous when Graham had ball in hand. The big Englishman’s ball-playing caused havoc for South Sydney defenders while he was his usual tradesman-like self with 16 runs and 39 tackles.

In a further blow for the Bulldogs, as they continue to be without big men Sam Kasiano and Greg Eastwood, they could also be minus Frank Pritchard and Josh Reynolds for their next clash against Penrith after the pair were placed on report for separate shoulder charges in front of a crowd of 29,571 fans.

Pritchard looked to have collected his former teammate Bryson Goodwin in the head before hobbling from the field with an ankle injury early in the second half. Back-rower Tony Williams may also come under scrutiny from the match review committee despite not being placed on report for a high tackle on John Sutton.

Fullback Ben Barba is also at least another week away from a return.

A well worked set move handed South Sydney the first try when winger Dylan Farrell scored after 14 minutes.

The clever set play had Farrell come from the right side of the field towards the left, with Chris McQueen running an inside decoy line only for Sutton to hit Farrell on the outside.

Five minutes later the Bunnies scored again, after an early tackle grubber kick from Reynolds allowed Dylan Walker to sneak in for the try. Walker and Farrell almost combined again for South Sydney’s next points, with only a fumble from Farrell after a Walker flick pass denying him a second, after a fast exchange of passes in a wide back-line sweep.

As Canterbury looked destined to go the entire 40 minutes without a point, it was the Bulldogs’ Reynolds who tried to match the performance of his namesake. Josh threw a lineball cut out pass that hit an unmarked Sam Perrett to give the Bulldogs some chance at 14-6 at half-time.

But the Bulldogs wasted little time adding their next try when winger Mitch Brown scored his first of two second-half tries.

And just when it looked like the Bulldogs were finding their mojo Greg Inglis stamped his mark on the game for the first time. Storming onto an inside ball from Sutton, Inglis broke through the Bulldogs defence before linking with Issac Luke to score and extend their lead by 10 with 28 minutes remaining.
