A Ben Barba double has helped the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs secure an important comeback victory, their 11th in a row, 22-14 over the Brisbane Broncos.
After trailing 14-0 early in the game, the Bulldogs got one back before the break and then dominated the majority of the second half to come away with a good win at home.
The Broncos got off to a flying start, scoring in just the second minute when Ben Te'o burst into a gap off a Ben Hunt pass and over Ben Barba to open the scoring, 6-0 to Brisbane.
It was quickly 12-0 in the sixth minute when Matt Gillett tore into a hole off a ball from Peter Wallace, before offloading to Corey Norman to score next to the posts.
Wallace stretched the lead to 14-0 not long after with a penalty goal, but a shell-shocked Bulldogs started to click into gear from this point on the back of good scramble defence.
The home side looked to have opened their account in the 17th minute when Ben Barba chased through a Josh Reynolds bomb, but he fumbled the ball getting it off Hunt, and the video referee ruled a no-try.
The Broncos then looked dangerous again when Sam Thaiday got clear from a Hunt offload, but Corey Norman was pulled down just short of the line by Reynolds after receiving the inside ball from the Brisbane captain.
Slowly the Bulldogs intensity and energy in defence started to get them in control of the game, as they forced the Broncos to kick from within their own 30m on numerous occasions.
They got across for their first points in the 37th minute, with Josh Jackson busting out of two tackles from a Reynolds pass to close the gap to 14-6.
Despite a final frantic attack as the siren sounded, they were unable to narrow the margin any further, with the Broncos taking their eight point advantage into the half time break.
After a tough start to the second half, the Bulldogs started to create plenty of pressure on the Broncos line. Good goal-line defence held them at bay for four consecutive sets, before Martin Taupau used some good footwork and burrowed his way over the line to narrow the gap to 14-12 in the Broncos favour.
The Bulldogs hit the front in the 59th minute, with a well-executed set play from a scrum. Josh Reynolds kicked for Ben Barba, who got around Corey Norman to plant the ball down and put them in front 16-14.
The Broncos would launch a counter-offensive over the next 10 minutes, with a good kick game and some dominant forward play putting the Bulldogs under plenty of pressure. It was only great defence by the home side that held them out, before Sam Perrett forced an error from Matt Gillett with a good tackle.
From the ensuing set, Barba used strength and footwork to get out of a Peter Wallace tackle and scoot over for the match-sealing try, securing a 22-14 victory.
Peter Wallace almost set up a grandstand finish when he supported a Justin Hodges chip and chase, but Barba held him up and saved the try, leaving the Bulldogs to win 22-14.
