Comeback kings South Sydney produced their second miraculous escape in as many weeks to defeat Canterbury 34-30 in golden point in Monday night's round 17 NRL fixture at Sydney's Olympic stadium.
Fresh from the second-biggest comeback in history against the Cowboys, the Rabbitohs clawed their way back from 24-6 down with just over 30 minutes in the match to seal their fourth win on the trot.
Deadlocked 30-30 at the end of 80 minutes, South Sydney were given possession 10 metres out from the tryline in the second period of extra time after Bulldogs prop Jarrad Hickey produced a knock-on from the kick-off.
Instead of going for a field goal early in the set of six, the Rabbitohs produced a short-side play that culminated in Luke Capewell - until that point having an awful game - diving over on the right wing for the match-winning four-pointer.
Capewell had a shocker in regulation time, spilling high balls and grubbers, one of which led to a Tim Winitana try that put Canterbury out by three converted tries.
But all was forgiven in the 87th minute when he crossed the line, and the youngster said it was just a case of keeping in the game.
"We started off pretty shaky but there's a lot of confidence there and we're just hanging in," he told Fox Sports after the match.
"There's some things I've just got to work on but it was a good finish."
Souths got back in the game as they did last week, with a three-try burst in the space of just nine minutes in the second stanza which took them from 24-6 down to level scores.
It was the fourth time in a row Jason Taylor's side has won after trailing at half-time, and the win puts them back into finals contention.
The Souths win would be particularly devastating for Hickey, who was one of Canterbury's best with a monster 42 tackles and 13 hit-ups, and Bulldogs skipper Andrew Ryan said late errors proved costly.
"We knew they had plenty of points in them and I guess it came back to who held the pill at the end," he told Fox Sports.
"There's been no doubting the guys effort and pride in the jersey all year.
"[Hickey] was outstanding, unfortunately that's the way it goes but we just need to keep our heads up and keep working hard."
Canterbury scored three tries to one in the opening 40 minutes to hold an 18-6 lead at the break.
There was plenty of excitement in the opening stanza as two sides in the bottom three of the competition put on some free-running rugby league for the Homebush crowd.
The Bulldogs started the show with a brilliant solo try from 19-year-old Arana Taumata, who raced through three Rabbitohs defenders and 80 metres of open pasture to cross for the first try of the match in the 12th minute.
Bulldogs full-back Brent Crisp followed up with his own effort three minutes later when he spectacularly jumped over his opposite number Capewell to take a high bomb on the five metre line and plant the ball under the sticks.
Trailing 10-0 the Rabbitohs finally got on the scoreboard when second-rower David Fa'alogo steamed onto an inside ball from five-eighth Craig Wing and barged his way over the line from 10 metres out.
A Hazem El Masri penalty kick put the lead out to 12-6, before the Bulldogs landed a huge blow right on the half-time siren when Ryan barged over from close range after second-phase play led by Sonny Bill Williams on the left wing.
