Wayne Golding joined Canterbury in 1970 as a lock forward.

Wayne was a regular member of the third grade team and played the Semi-Final against St George but missed the Preliminary Final against South Sydney.

In 1971, Wayne started in reserve grade and received the opportunity to play first grade in the second game of the season against Parramatta when Ron Raper was injured.

Wayne was a regular member of the reserve grade team and played in the Premiership winning team against St George as a replacement.
