Troy Stone played five games for Cronulla in 1993 as a centre.

In 1994, Troy joined St George and moved to the forwards to mainly play prop. He played 33 games for St George, including the Grand Final against Manly in 1996.

In 1997, Troy played 18 games for the Hunter Mariners and in 1998, he joined Canterbury and started the season in reserve grade. Troy received the opportunity to play in the NRL against Canberra when Darren Britt was injured. He became a regular member of the NRL team and played in the Grand Final against Brisbane from the bench.

In 1999, Troy was a regular member of the NRL team and played in the Semi-Final against Melbourne.

In 2000, Troy started the season in the NRL before being relegated for Nathan Sologinkin. He was injured mid-season and did not return to the NRL.

In 2001, Troy started the season in the Premier League and joined Huddersfield mid-season.

In 2004, Troy was nominated for the Berries to Bulldogs 70 Year Team of Champions.
