Troy Cassell joined Canterbury in 1990 as a prop forward.

Troy was a regular member of the Under 21 team and played in the Preliminary Semi-Final against Parramatta as a replacement.

In 1991, Troy became a regular member of the reserve grade team and was used regularly as a replacement forward for first grade. He played in the Play-Off against Western Suburbs as a replacement.

In 1992, Troy started the season late due to injury and was briefly promoted to first grade for Mitch Newton.

In 1993, Troy started the season in reserve grade but joined Penrith mid-season where he played 13 games from 1993 to 1994.
