Trent Runciman joined Canterbury in 1997 as a second row forward.

Trent was a regular member of the Under 19 team as captain. He played in the Semi-Final against Cronulla but missed the Preliminary Final due to injury.

In 1998, Trent was a regular member of the Flegg team and often played as a replacement in reserve grade. He received the opportunity to play in the NRL against Newcastle when Barry Ward became ill before the game. Trent played in the Premiership winning team in reserve grade from the bench.

In 1999, Trent became a regular member of the reserve grade team and played in the Semi-Final against Cronulla as lock.

In 2000, Trent was a regular member of the 1st Division team and played in the Premiership winning team against Penrith as a second row forward.

In 2001, Trent joined Wests Tigers to play 22 games from 2001 to 2002.
