Tony Herring played four games for North Sydney in 1972 as a five eighth.

Tony joined Canterbury in 1973 as a five eighth and received an early opportunity in first grade against South Sydney when Peter Winchester was relegated.

Tony finished the 1973 season playing centre in the Under 23s and played in the Preliminary Final against Balmain.

In 1974, Tony was a regular member of the third grade team, captaining five games and played in the Grand Final against St George.
