Originally from Tumut, Tom joined Canterbury in 1936 as a goal kicking fullback.

Tom secured the fullback position in 1936 and played in the inaugural semi-final against Easts (Roosters).

A broken leg spoiled his 1937 season but he came back in 1938 to play all matches in the Premiership winning team. Tom was also the competitions top point scorer.

In 1939, he played centre for NSW but was unfortunate to miss the City Cup final through injury.

Departing Canterbury, Tom played 85 games for Newtown between 1940 and 1946 including the Premiership winning 1943 team.

Tom also played one season with North Sydney in 1947 including one more game for NSW.

Tommy Kirk was the seasons top point scorer on five occasions; 1938, 1940, 1943, 1944 and 1946.

He was also the first player to score 1000 career points in the premiership.

Tom Kirk passed away in March 1994.
