Terry Murphy joined Canterbury in 1970 as a winger.
Terry progressed through the grades as a centre to receive an opportunity to play first grade against St George as a replacement for the injured Les Perry.
In 1971, Terry became a regular member of the reserve grade team but was relegated to play in the Premiership winning third grade team against St George.
In 1972, Terry returned to be a regular member of the reserve grade team and played in the Premiership winning team against St George.
In 1973, Terry started the season in first grade to become a regular member of the first grade team. He became captain for his one and only game. Terry played in the Preliminary Semi-Final against Newtown.
Terry started the 1974 season in reserve grade but returned to first grade for Bernie Lowther to play in the Grand Final against Easts (Roosters).
In 1975, Terry joined Newtown to play 17 first grade games before retiring.
