Terry McCartney joined Canterbury in 1979 as a centre.

Terry was a regular member of the reserve grade team and received the opportunity to play first grade against Balmain as a replacement.

Terry played on the wing in the reserve grade Grand Final against Parramatta.

In 1980, Terry played in the Premiership winning team against Parramatta and in 1981, played in the Preliminary Semi-Final against St George.
