Ted Schell joined Canterbury in 1953 as a prop forward.

Ted played in every first grade game in his initial season and was selected in the Sydney II team.

After commencing the 1954 in first grade, Ted could not regain his first grade position after returning from injury, which was secured by Kevin O'Callaghan.
