Steve Mullen joined Canterbury in 1980 as a second row forward.
The father of Jarrod Mullen, Steve started the season in the Under 23 team and became a regular member of the reserve grade team. He played in the Premiership winning team against Parramatta.
In 1981, Steve returned to be a regular member of the Under 23 team before receiving the opportunity to play first grade against Easts (Roosters) as a replacement.
In 1982, Steve became a regular member of the first grade team when Geoff Robinson was injured.
In 1983, Steve started in reserve grade but returned to first grade when Terry Leabeater was relegated and suffered a season ending knee injury.
Steve returned in 1984 and became a regular member of the third grade team.
In 1985, Steve joined Western Suburbs to play two games in first grade that season.
