Steve Hage joined Canterbury in 1976 as a prop.

Steve progressed through the grades to become a regular member of the reserve grade tem playing second row.

Steve received the opportunity to play first grade against Penrith as a replacement.

He secured a first grade position when Graeme Hughes was injured and played in the Preliminary Final against Manly.

In 1977, Steve became a regular member of the first grade team but his season was interrupted by suspension.

In 1978, Steve played for City II before playing two games for NSW. He also played in the Preliminary Semi-Final against Parramatta.

In 1979, Steve joined Newtown to play nine first grade games.

In 1980, Steve joined Easts (Roosters) to play only one first grade game before retiring due to a neck injury.
