Sean Skelton joined Canterbury in 1989 as a hooker.

In 1990, Sean became a regular member of the Under 21 team and captained the team in the Preliminary Semi-Final against Parramatta.

In 1991, Sean progressed through the grades and received the opportunity to play first grade against Parramatta as a replacement. He played in the Play-Off against Western Suburbs as a replacement.

In 1992, Sean started the season in reserve grade and was promoted to first grade for Geordi Peats before being relegated for Ben Gillies. He finished the season in the Under 21 team.

In 1993, Sean joined South Sydney to play 15 games that season and in 1995 joined Illawarra to play four games that season.
