Roy Mitchell joined Canterbury in 1944 as a winger.

Progressing through the grades, Roy was selected to play first grade in 1945 in the absence of Merv Denton.

A regular in reserve grade for three seasons, Roy played in the reserve grade Grand Final in 1945 against South Sydney.

Roy is the brother of Bill Mitchell who played for the club in 1945.
