Roy Freebody joined Canterbury in 1955 as a winger.

He was a regular member of the first grade team over a two year period.

Roy played for Captains Flat from 1951-53. In 1953 he represented Monaro and played against the American All Stars at Manuka Oval.

In 1954 played for Christian Brothers, Wollongong from where he was asked to trial for Canterbury with Jack Bowman. They were both accepted and played the full 1955 and 1956 seasons.

In 1956, Roy, along with Bowman, represented City Seconds and played at the Sydney Cricket Ground under Coach Jack Rayner.

Roy passed away in July 2011.
