Robert Mears played 11 games for Easts (Roosters) from 1993 to 1996 as a hooker.
In 1997, Robert joined Canterbury and started in reserve grade before receiving the opportunity to play first grade against Hunter Mariners when Jason Hetherington was injured. He was a replacement in the Preliminary Final against Penrith.
In 1998, Robert was a regular member of the reserve grade team and played in the Premiership winning team against Parramatta.
In 1999, Robert joined Auckland to play 40 games from 1999 to 2000.
After playing for Ourimbah in 2001, Robert joined the Wests Tigers in 2002 to play 57 games from 2002 to 2004.
