Ray Dodd joined Canterbury in 1971 as a hooker.

He was a regular member of the third grade team but missed out on the finals.

In 1972, Ray started the season in reserve grade and received his opportunity to play first grade against Cronulla as a replacement.

Ray ended the season in first grade and missed the lower grade finals.

In 1973, Ray started the season in reserve grade but was relegated late in the season and missed out on the finals.

In 1974 he was a regular in Under 23s and captained the team to the Grand Final against St George.
