Peter O'Neill joined Canterbury in 1975 as a fullback.
After joining late in the season, Peter played in the Preliminary Final against Balmain.
In 1976, Peter started the season in first grade against Balmain as a replacement when Gary Dowling broke his jaw.
Peter was relegated for Stan Cutler and after spending time in reserve grade was relegated to play in the Under 23s Grand Final against Easts (Roosters).
In 1977, Peter became a regular member of the reserve grade team and in 1978 Peter was a regular member of the Under 23s team.
