Paul Gearin joined Canterbury in 1980 as a winger.

The brother of Steve Gearin, Paul became a regular member of the Under 23 team.

In 1981 he started the season in the Under 23s but became a regular member of the reserve grade team. Paul received his opportunity to play first grade as a replacement.

Paul played centre in the 1981 reserve grade Preliminary Semi-Final against St George.

In 1982, Paul was a regular member of the reserve grade team and in 1983, 

Paul joined Western Suburbs. He played one first grade game in 1984.
