Morrie Murphy joined Canterbury for a single season in 1947 as a winger.

Morrie was fortunate to be part of a strong Canterbury team that were to become minor premiers.

Morrie scored a record 14 tries for the season which was not equalled until 1953 by Barry Stenhouse and then beaten by Chris Anderson in 1974.
