Mick Vaughan joined Canterbury in 1955 as a lock forward.

He was a regular member of the third grade team for three years before becoming a regular member of the reserve grade team in 1958.

Mick received the opportunity to play first grade when Nick Evans was injured for the third match of the season against South Sydney.

In 1959, he was appointed captain of reserve grade and played in the Preliminary Final against North Sydney.

In 1960, Mick started the season in first grade but lost his position when he was injured and Col Brown became the new lock in first grade.

In 1961, Mick moved to the second row and was a first grade replacement for Col Oates.
