Merv Denton was a highly regarded Country winger that came to Sydney for three short stints.

Merv represented NSW in 1939 before joining Canterbury.

Despite the fact that Edgar Newham and Joe Gartner were the established wingers, Merv was able to secure a first grade position and then play for NSW.

Merv played a total of 12 games for NSW between 1939 and 1941. He also played in the 1940 final against Easts (Roosters).

After leaving Canterbury, Merv played for Young before returning to Sydney to play 12 games for Balmain in 1943.

Merv returned to Canterbury for one more season in 1945.
