Max Mannix joined Canterbury in 1983 as a winger.
Max became a regular member of the third grade team, mainly as a centre.
In 1984, Max became a regular member of the reserve grade team and received the opportunity to play first grade against Canberra when Ross Conlon was relegated. He suffered a torn medial ligament before the finals, which enabled the promotion of Steve O'Brien.
In 1985, Max became a regular member of the reserve grade team.
In 1986, Max joined Illawarra to play 16 games from 1986 to 1988.
