Max Brown joined Canterbury in 1965 as a centre.

He progressed quickly through the grades and in 1966 received the opportunity to play first grade when Les Johns was unavailable on representative duties.

In 1967, Max became a regular winger in first grade but was unfortunate to miss the finals due to injury. In 1968 and 1969, he continued as a regular member of the first grade team.

In 1970, Max spent much of the season in the lower grades before securing a first grade position when John Rhodes was injured.

Max played his final match for Canterbury in the Semi-Final against St George.

In 1971, Max joined Manly to play 62 games between 1971 and 1975. He played in the 1972 and 1973, Premiership winning teams.

In 2004, Max was nominated for the Berries to Bulldogs 70 Year Team of Champions.
