Matthew Callinan joined Canterbury in 1985 as a fullback.
Matthew became a regular member of the reserve grade and received the opportunity to play first grade against Cronulla as a replacement.
Matthew played in the reserve grade Semi-Final against Canberra and was promoted to first grade for Greg Mullane to play in the Premiership winning team against St George on the wing.
Matthew started the 1986 season in first grade but was relegated to reserve grade for Peter Mortimer and remained in reserve grade.
