Mark Watson joined Canterbury in 1989 as a winger.

Progressing through the grades quickly, Mark moved to half back and received the opportunity to play first grade against Brisbane when Kevin Moore was relegated.

Mark was relegated to reserve grade for the last game of the season to allow Paul Langmack to play five eighth.
