Mark Elia joined Canterbury in 1989 as a centre.

Former St Helens player and New Zealand international, playing nine Tests from 1985 to 1989, Mark received the opportunity to play first grade against St George when Henry Raymond was relegated.

Mark was relegated mid-season for Kevin Moore and did not complete the season.

Mark Elia scored 50 tries in 70 games for St Helens and 30 tries in 36 games for the Kiwis between 1985-1989.

Elia sustained a knee injury in the 3rd Test vs Australia on July 1989 which unfortunately finished his season with the Bulldogs. He did not play again until the first game of the 1989 New Zealand tour to England and France.
