Luke Thompson arrived at Belmore from St Helens for the remainder of the 2020 campaign after agreeing to terms for the 2021/22/23 seasons earlier in the year. Luke has had a stellar career at St Helens, having made 157 appearances for the red and whites, including scoring 8 tries for them last season.
During his time at St Helens, he has proved to be one of the best props in the competition, including being part of their Championship side in 2014 and then winning the Harry Sunderland Trophy as Man of the Match in the Super League Grand Final victory over Salford last season.
Luke made his International debut for England in 2018 and then went on to represent Great Britain during their tour of the Southern Hemisphere last year, making his debut against Tonga.
Luke made his debut for the Bulldogs against the Brisbane Broncos in round 9 of the 2020 NRL season. Luke made 10 appearances for Canterbury in the 2020 NRL season as the club narrowly avoided the wooden spoon finishing 15th on the table.
In round 5 of the 2021 NRL season, Luke scored his first try for Canterbury in a 52-18 loss against Melbourne. This try ended Canterbury's scoreless streak of over 240 minutes of play, as they had failed to score in their previous three games.
Throughout the 2021 NRL season Luke made a total of 15 appearances for Canterbury. However, the club finished last in the season and were awarded the Wooden Spoon.
Luke played a total of 13 matches for Canterbury in the 2022 NRL season as the club finished 12th on the table.
On the 28 February 2023, Luke injured his ankle at training, and was assisted off the field. Canterbury general manager Phil Gould later revealed that the injury was quite serious, and initial prognosis was minimum 6 months recovery. He made his return on 28 July 2023 off the bench in Round 22 of the NSW Cup season, making 10 runs for 103 metres. On 4 October 2023, Thompson signed a four-year deal to join English side Wigan ahead of the 2024 season.
