The son of Harry Holmes (former Souths and Easts lock that assisted the club in the early years), Len Holmes first honour was to be Canterbury's ball boy for the 1938 Premiership winning final against Easts (Roosters).
Len played prop in 1945 and quickly made his way to first grade. In 1946, he moved to lock where he remained until 1950. Thereafter, Len played second row or prop.
After playing in the 1946 final against Balmain, Len was selected to play for NSW in 1947, playing all three games.
His goal kicking skills developed through the season and he became a key player in the team, playing in the 1947 Grand Final against Balmain.
After providing great service to the club as a player, Len coached the reserve grade team in 1955 and 1956.
Len passed away in 1960.
In 2004, Len was nominated for the Berries to Bulldogs 70 Year Team of Champions.
