Keith Hudson joined Canterbury in 1954 as a half back. Keith is the cousin of Ray Gartner.

Keith progressed quickly through the grades in 1954 and received an opportunity to play first grade when Leo Trevena was injured. He became the 200th player to play first grade for the club.

The club preferred Keith to the experienced, Laurie White.
