John Timu joined the Bulldogs in 1995 as a fullback.

A New Zealand Rugby Union international who had played 26 Tests for his country, became a regular member of the Bulldogs first grade team and as centre after making his debut against North Queensland in the opening match. He played in the Premiership winning team against Manly.

John became a dual international and played eight Tests for New Zealand from 1995 to 1997.

In 1996, John played every game that season and in 1997, played in the Prliminary Semi-Final against Penrith.

In 1998, John joined the London Broncos and in 2004 he was nominated for the Berries to Bulldogs 70 Year Team of Champions.
