John Larcombe joined Canterbury in 1965 as a centre.
After missing the 1966 season, John started the 1967 season on the wing in reserve grade before receiving the opportunity to play first grade against Balmain when Dick Webb was injured.
John was used as a utility replacement in the backline.
In 1968 his season was ruined by injury and he finished the season in third grade. After missing the 1969 season, John started the 1970 season in reserve grade.
