John Kasbarian joined Canterbury in 1981 as a prop forward.

John became a regular member of the Under 23 team, late in the season.

In 1982, started the season in the Under 23s as a second row forward and became a regular member of the reserve grade team. He received his opportunity in first grade against Western Suburbs as a replacement.

In 1983, John was as a regular member of the team of the third grade team.
