Jim Leis played 59 games for Western Suburbs between 1980 and 1982 as a lock forward.
In his first season, Jim played two games for NSW and was a member of the Australian team to tour New Zealand. He did not play any tests.
In 1983, Jim joined Canterbury, starting the season in first grade against Illawarra before he was relegated for Mark Hughes. Jim played in the reserve grade Semi-Final against St George.
In 1984, Jim started the season in first grade but was relegated for Paul Langmack. In 1985, Jim was a regular member of the reserve grade team.
In 1986, Jim joined Cronulla to play nine first grade games from 1986 to 1987.
