James Pickering joined the Bulldogs in 1995 as a prop forward.
James started the season late and started as a replacement forward against Western Reds. His season was ruined by a knee injury.
In 1996, James returned only to receive a season ending injury in his only game.
In 1997, James started the late and returned to first grade briefly before finishing the season in reserve grade. He played in the Premiership winning team against Auckland as a replacement.
In 1998, James joined the Roosters to play 14 games that season before re-joining the Bulldogs in 2000. However, injuries ruined his season once again.
