Heinz Blume joined Canterbury in 1963 as a lock forward.

Heinz was selected in first grade at the start of the season against South Sydney, scoring on debut to become a regular member in the side for most of the season.

He was relegated to reserve grade late in the season for Don Hobson before playing in the reserve grade Preliminary Final against South Sydney.
